Our focus

We are supporting the energy transition to renewable energy by using our expertise in floating and fixed offshore wind.

Floating offshore wind

Floating offshore wind is a simple concept with a big future. It means taking turbines into deeper waters, where the winds are stronger and more reliable.

Further offshore, the wind turbines have less environmental and visual impact and can generate a lot more power, helping countries with their net zero targets.

The global potential for floating wind is enormous. Many countries do not have shallow coastal waters. Consequently, floating wind will be the only solution if these nations wish to deliver offshore renewables.

Fixed offshore wind

The first offshore wind farm was commissioned in Denmark in the early 1990s and only 5MW capacity. At the time, with such limited technology, many believed that creating commercial projects at sea would be unachievable.

Progress was slow, with only a handful of pilot projects delivered across Europe in the next 10 years.  The UK’s first demonstration offshore wind farm was installed in December 2000 with 2MW wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 66m.

Energy transition

Energy Transition is a major challenge for the global oil and gas industry. Concerns about carbon taxes and how to maintain a social licence to operate weighs heavily on the shoulders of oil and gas companies.

Flotation Energy has pioneered energy transition opportunities in conjunction with several major international oil companies.

Today, this knowledge and experience is helping to support significant energy transition opportunities, both in the UK and internationally.
