Gippsland for Australia’s first offshore wind priority assessment

Today the Australia Government announced that the Bass Straight, off Gippsland, Victoria, has been declared the first offshore wind area to be assessed. This is the site of Flotation Energy’s Seadragon Offshore Wind Project and an exciting development that supports our commitment to Gippsland and helps accelerate offshore wind development in the region. This is in addition to Victoria Government’s 9 GW offshore wind target and our securing funding late last year.

Today’s announcement is the first stage of the Offshore Electricity Infrastructure framework. Regulations are put for comment and expected to be enacted in June 2022. This will enable a new industry to emerge and to secure affordable energy, jobs and investment as part of building Australia’s clean industrial future.
