Looking ahead to International Women’s Day, 2025

Louise Doherty, Head of People and Culture, Flotation Energy

At Flotation Energy we work hard to do things differently, striving to push boundaries. Our approach to International Women’s Day is no different.

We believe true equity, diversity and inclusion is so much more than reporting quotas and statistics. It’s about a culture of belonging, where people feel psychologically safe to bring their whole authentic selves into their roles. In working this way, it’s clear that we get the best from our people.

A culture of belonging

Recently, a group of employees from different ages, backgrounds and job roles bravely shared their unique stories on the ways their lives have been shaped, both positively and negatively, by them identifying as a female. The stories were raw and at times uncomfortable to listen to, but they illustrated that we are all responsible for accelerating action and change in the world.

This initiative marked another milestone for Flotation Energy following the recent introduction of our Returners Coaching Programme in January 2025 – a support channel created for all employees following a prolonged absence from work. Since its introduction, the programme has already proved incredibly valuable, particularly for women returning from maternity leave.

In addition, in partnership with Heriot Watt University, we introduced our Menstrual Health Policy with a series of workshops to support all employees.  Unlike traditional workplace Menopause Policies, we wanted to take a broader approach, aiming to support all employees with all considerations related to menstruation.

At Flotation Energy, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. By listening to our employees, challenging norms and driving change, we are striving to build a more inclusive future.
